Our Story
When we met
When we met
On a warm, early June evening in the West Village, we met inside a basement bar, presciently named the Fat Cat (see March 2020 in our timeline). The bar—now closed—was known for having lots of different games, like ping-pong, pool and darts. But we never got up to play any of them–we were too busy talking, for several hours seated at the bar.

Relationship Timeline
Relationship Timeline
It’s not easy to sum up 10+ years in a relationship, but we picked a few of our favorite moments to highlight here.
Between these dates there are countless trips to concerts, sporting events, to the theatre, the movies, museum exhibits and parks.
There are also lots of snuggles with our cats, hours spent hanging on the beach, and cooking dinner at home. There have been many, many hours spent watching New England sports teams win multiple championship titles. Michela’s teams haven’t done so well, but Matt still keeps her updated on the latest news and helps cheer on the Reds, Bengals and Hoosiers.

The Proposal
The Proposal
We’d been wanting to visit Paris together for a very long time. We both studied French in school and had already taken trips to other Francophone cities like New Orleans and Montreal. Paris was the big trip on our list. We finally made it happen in December 2023.
Matt carried Michela’s ring around in his coat pocket for days waiting for the right moment. That happened on New Year’s Eve. The day was sunny, crisp and cold. We spent the morning at a Mark Rothko exhibit and had croque monsieurs and red wine for lunch.
By the late afternoon we finally made it to the Eiffel Tower. As we got closer, Michela encouraged Matt to stop and take a photo. It was his first time seeing the Eiffel Tower after all, and how exciting–we needed to commemorate the moment. Then, an even bigger moment happened!
Matt surprised Michela and dropped down onto one knee. Michela said yes (of course!) and a group of people nearby cheered.
